The Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion will be received when the child is in our Second Grade of Religious Education. According to the Guidelines of the Archdiocese of NY, a student has to have two formal years of Religious Education before receiving these Sacraments.
Our Objective for this grade is to present Jesus as the model for Christian living, and to introduce the sacraments of Baptism, Penance and Eucharist. Our Theme is that Jesus nourishes us, and strengthens God’s life and grace within us.
We review the prayers already learned in the First Grade. They are as follows: The Sign of the Cross, The Our Father, The Hail Mary and The Glory Be. The following prayer is taught in Second Grade:
ACT OF CONTRITION:
My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against You whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with Your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In His name, my God, have mercy. -Amen
